Metabolic syndrome is a set of symptoms that significantly increases the risk of several chronic illnesses. Symptoms include large waistline, high levels of blood sugar and triglycerides, elevated blood pressure and low HDL cholesterol level.

If at least three of the above symptoms apply, take steps to improve your health.

Based on the results of two studies published in 2021, vitamin D deficiency can be an important factor in the development of metabolic syndrome.

The role of vitamin D provision

According to a systematic review which summarized the results of 43 observational studies, metabolic syndrome was 43% less likely to occur in people with the highest levels of vitamin D3 than in people with minimal vitamin D provisions.  Every 25 nmol/l increase corresponded to a 15% drop in risk. The situation was similar in children: according to the results of 11 studies, high vitamin D levels halved the risk of metabolic syndrome. In their case, researchers observed that every 25 nmol / l decreased the risk by 12%. (2)
