More and more people suffer from various inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, so it’s especially important to discover  the factors  that play a role in their development. Vitamin D has multiple ways to fight off infectious microorganisms; it controls inflammatory processes, so proper vitamin D levels are fundamental for the health of the digestive system.

A randomized controlled trial published in 2021 examined the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation in 120 children who had inflammatory bowel disease alongside   vitamin D deficiency. The children were divided into two groups, one getting 2000 IU vitamin D3 and the other placebo. As a result of vitamin D supplementation, the children’s gastrointestinal symptoms significantly decreased while their quality of life greatly improved . All values indicating inflammation reduced, as well as the need for hospitalization or emergency medical  care.
