High concentration Vitamin C is present in the brain , where  it has an effect on dopamine production, so it influences moods. Recently, Korean researchers have examined other ways vitamin C affects the brain. They wanted to find out how vitamin C affects healthy young adults’ cognitive skills and job performance.

Their randomized controlled trial was published in 2022. 46 adults participated; 24 of them were given 2x 500 mg of vitamin C for 4 weeks while the others were given placebo.

The vitamin C levels of participants who supplemented vitamin C doubled, and as a result, their attention improved by 12.5% on average and their working capacity by nearly 10%. In a test where their reaction time was measured, they gave the right answer 7 seconds faster on average than the placebo group   whose vitamin C provision was inadequate.

This new study highlights that even slight vitamin C deficiency can negatively affect mental and physical performance alike, even in the case of young adults.
